American Campus Communities and WDG Architecture drew upon the combined experiences of a developer and an architectural firm. Together they solicited the opinions of a user group and concluded the changing nature of college students (efficient integration of technology, possessing an international perspective, etc.), combined with trends in education (an increased demand for it, along with budget constraints) as well as emerging technologies (nanotechnology, alternative energy sources, and the like), will shape the future of university housing. To meet this demand, they envisioned interactive surfaces, modular construction, and other elements coming together as the next step on the timeline of architectural influences.
