For their presentation, the Bergmeyer Associates team imagined a news report from the year 2031 touting the release of the new IM Home college housing system. With this plan, the group predicted a growing role for technology in promoting collaboration and helping span distances. It foresaw partnerships between institutions of higher learning and major corporations (in this case, Honda). It also allowed for a great deal of individual personalization — even within a modular format — where students “construct” their IM Home module by electronically selecting from interchangeable components. The innovative use of technology even extends to the interior decorations as editable computer interfaces on the front of each pod take the place of the whiteboards and poster decorations used today.
