21st Century Project Prototype: The Village

Campus-Based 21st Century Project Summit

One of the requirements of hosting a 21st Century Project residence hall will be that the participating campus agrees to conduct a one-day “21st Century Project Summit—Beginning a Better Dialogue.” The summit will happen in the first quarter of 2009 and will model the summit that launched the 21st Century Project.

A participant in the initial summit stated: “Student housing has been reactive and not proactive, responsive but not planned, planned but not inclusively planned.” The 21st Century Project hopes to reverse this history by engaging the broadest possible range of stakeholders in rethinking student housing on the.

As a first step to a better dialogue, the Summit will convene stakeholders of the campuses chosen that represents the housing and residence life officers, student affairs officers, academic officers, business officers, students, architects, developers, and contractors to:

  • Clarify the needs of the a ”student of the future” (for your campus)
  • Explore your campus community experience
  • Define the residential life experience
  • Specify the physical features of the residential experience.

Selected campuses will utilize the services of Millennia Consulting, LLC, who will provide the facilitation of the event along with necessary internal staff to generate a summit report for your institution. Through focused, small-group discussions, summit participants will bring to light some of the key elements that will define student experiences in the 21st century and the associated features of a prototype residential facility. The conversations will define the program statement necessary for architects to design to your campuses expectations.
